Due to the continued travel impacts from the weekend’s winter storm, from Bent Creek to Garren Creek to Flat Creek and points in between, all Buncombe County Schools will operate on a Remote Learning/Optional Teacher Workday tomorrow, Tuesday Jan. 27, 2026.
Teachers will post assignments in learning management systems by 10 am, or may have sent paper packets home with students. Students will have up to 5 school days to complete assignments, and once they do, students will be counted present for the day/class period. High schools affected by the schedule change will be communicating final exam plans with families.
Lunch will be available to eat in the cafeteria between noon to 1:00 pm at the following locations: Emma Elementary, Leicester Elementary, Candler Elementary. Students are able to eat at no charge at any of the above locations, and parents can purchase a meal for $5.25 if they desire.

Nuestro personal de transporte ha estado evaluando las condiciones de las carreteras. Debido a los continuos problemas de tráfico causados por la tormenta invernal del fin de semana, desde Bent Creek hasta Garren Creek, pasando por Flat Creek y otros puntos intermedios, todas las escuelas del condado de Buncombe funcionarán mañana, martes 27 de enero de 2026, en régimen de aprendizaje a distancia y un día de trabajo opcional para los profesores.
Los profesores publicarán las tareas en los sistemas de gestión del aprendizaje antes de las 10 de la mañana o podrán haber enviado paquetes en papel a casa con los alumnos. Buncombe County Schools will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, 2026 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026 is a designated teacher workday. Classes resume Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026.
Our BCS Transportation teams have been out early this morning monitoring travel conditions. Due to light snow overnight impacting several secondary roads in part of our area, the Enka District and Erwin District of Buncombe County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students today, Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026. Buses will not travel on icy roads. This delayed start gives DOT crews extra time to treat any problem areas, and allows for travel with more daylight. Again, this is a two hour delay for the Enka and Erwin districts only, including Nesbitt Discovery Academy. All other BCS schools are on regular schedule
Breakfast will be served to students when they arrive at school. High schools in the Enka and Erwin districts with final exams scheduled for today will communicate their plans with their families.
While conditions are forecast to improve, BCS Transportation teams will continue to assess conditions. We will update you should we need to further alter today’s school schedule. Again, this is a two hour delay for students in the Enka and Erwin districts only. All other BCS schools are on a regular schedule.

Due to a wintry mix that’s fallen across our area since late last night, and freezing temperatures causing the potential for black ice on some secondary roads, Buncombe County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students today, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025. Buses will not travel on icy roads. This delayed start will give DOT crews extra time to treat any problem areas, and allow for safer travel with more daylight.
Breakfast will be served to students when they arrive at school.
