Students Shanon Gobble and Ryan Luther at boot camp graduation with a faculty member from Enka High.

Two Enka High students, Shannon Gobble and Ryan Luther, showed extraordinary commitment and determination this past summer by completing boot camp for the United States Army.

The program tested them physically, mentally and emotionally, but both came through with a new level of resilience and pride.

For Shanon, the experience was life-changing.

“It feels so surreal to have completed basic training, as I have hit a huge milestone before even walking the stage to graduate high school,” she explained. “Graduating from boot camp has given me a sense of pride as well as motivation and confidence. It makes high school graduation feel like a next step for me rather than the finish line, because I have already started building my future. I have proven to myself that I can do hard things that most people my age have not yet faced.”

The daily grind of early summer mornings, long marches, and rigorous training shaped both students into disciplined leaders.

“The skills I have developed during basic training will help me in all areas of life as I have learned to stay focused under pressure, effectively work as a team, and set precise goals for myself,” Shannon said. “This experience has strengthened my leadership and the value of perseverance, which will help me as I continue my education along with my future in the military.”

As Shanon and Ryan return to Enka High, both carry the honor of the accomplishment and serve as an inspiration to their classmates. Their journey shows that with courage and perseverance, young people can lead the climb that prepares them for bright futures in service and leadership.

Congratulations to both Ryan and Shanon on this remarkable achievement, and thank you for your dedication to serve.
