Griffin, Ashley (Lead Title I Reading Teacher)

Welcome to the Title I Program!

My name is Ashley Griffin and I am the Lead Title 1 Teacher here at Hominy Valley. I have been an educator for over 10 years in the North Carolina Public School System. After graduating from Elon with a B.A. in Elementary Education, I obtained my master's degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State. Additional certifications and licensures include: Reading Specialist, BCS AIG Endorsement, and Middle Grades Social Studies Since the opening of Hominy Valley, we have been a Title 1 funded school, meaning 40% of our student population needs additional federal funding to give equitable access to resources for student growth. Title 1 funds are received from the federal government under the No Child Left Behind law. Title 1 provides research-based resources and materials, professional development for staff, and family engagement to promote literacy at home. Reading specialists plan lessons and prepare instructional materials to strengthen phonics, word work skills, vocabulary, fluency, reading comprehension, writing, and book discussions. The goal of Title 1 is to provide a high quality education for every child through research based instruction, especially to students who are at risk of not meeting state academic standards. Title 1 educators work with students in small groups on specific skills to help students become lifelong readers. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events we will offer to support literacy at home (please click on the "Family Engagement Plan" tab).
