It is with a tremendous amount of excitement that I would like to introduce myself as the new principal of Hominy Valley Elementary School! I have always heard great things about this wonderful school, and I am already seeing first-hand many of the attributes that have contributed to Hominy’s stellar reputation! I have been meeting with teachers and staff and am most impressed with such knowledgeable and dedicated educators. In addition, I have heard great things about the students, parents, community, PTO, etc. As a result, I am honored to be chosen to lead this outstanding school with such a rich tradition of excellence!
I am entering my twenty-first year in education. I am a former Title I teacher, fourth-grade teacher, curriculum coach, and assistant principal before becoming a principal six years ago. I was the principal at Pisgah Elementary School for five years and a principal in Haywood County for one year. I love what I do and cannot imagine doing anything else! Working with students, teachers, staff, and parents is important to me. I believe that it is essential to address the student’s social and emotional health and believe that their safety is of utmost importance. I look forward to building strong relationships and continuing the path of academic excellence, rigorous instruction, and fostering nurturing learning environments that have been a priority at Hominy Valley!
On a personal note, I have been married to my high school sweetheart for thirty-three years this August. We have one son, a daughter-in-law, and a new granddaughter! She is two months old, and my husband and I are quite smitten! We love to spend time outdoors with our family, especially at our house on Douglas Lake. I love to read and consider myself a lifelong learner. As a former Title I teacher, reading is a passion, and it has always been my desire as an educator to build that same excitement and love for reading with my students.
I have an open-door policy. If you ever have issues or concerns, feel free to contact me. You are your child’s first and foremost advocate, and I strongly believe that when educators and parents communicate, children are the ultimate benefactors! I look forward to meeting you and partnering together to ensure that your child has a successful school year!
