Hello Oakley families! This is Dr. Stolte with our weekly message. Thanks to everyone who came out to our block party Friday evening! It was great to see so many smiling faces and celebrate over 101 years together! Monday is our spring picture day. The photographer will be taking both class and individual pictures. To order class pictures, please send $10 in your picture envelope or use code FM442319 to order online at www.strawbridge.net. Proofs of individual pictures will be sent home in several weeks and you will be able to purchase them at that time. Tuesday is an early release day. School will dismiss at 12:30 pm, and all buses will arrive home two hours earlier than normal. We will also have orientation for incoming kindergarten families at 5pm on Tuesday. Please remind anyone that you know with an incoming kindergarten student. Wednesday is our 3rd grade Battle of the Books competition and 4th and 5th grade Growth and Development classes. 2nd grade will also have a field trip to Carl Sandberg Home, with some classes attending on Wednesday and some attending next Monday, April 29th. Please make sure that your child has turned in their permission slip for these activities. On Thursday author JP Miller will be visiting with our 3rd grade classes at 10am. 3rd grade parents are invited to join us. Students enjoyed a morning of high-energy basketball fun, and found inspiration in talented college athletes, musicians, and performers! Hello Oakley families! This is Dr. Stolte with our weekly message. Ledgewood families, we want to hear from you about your experiences at Oakley and how we can improve. Please join us for a listening session on Tuesday from 5-7 pm at the Ledgewood Community Clubhouse. This session is co-hosted by Reynolds Middle, so you will have a chance to share your input with both schools. Food will be provided. Hello Oakley families! This is Dr. Stolte with our weekly message. Tomorrow we will launch our One Book, One School reading of The Tale of Despereaux. Please check your child’s backpack for their book and reading schedule. We will read together at school, but encourage families to read to children or allow children to read to them at home as we all read and discuss the story together. As we read, we will be looking for ways students can show the kindness, bravery, honesty, and forgiveness displayed by the characters in the book and have some fun activities to celebrate these traits. Wednesday will be a day to “Let your Light Shine” - bring a flashlight to read together in class. Friday will be an EAR-resistible day; students can wear ear headbands or hats to listen for the good in the story and in those around us. There is no school on Tuesday, March 5th. Hello, Oakley families! This is Dr. Stolte with our weekly message. Beginning Monday, students at the Curci Drive stop on bus 294 will begin riding 2nd load to relieve overcrowding. They will arrive home from 3:05-3:15. Our monthly PTO meeting is on Tuesday at 5:15pm in the media center. Please enter through the back door across from the playground, or join us online at: meet.google.com/mhn-rvpk-otw Kindergarteners will have a field trip on Friday to the Asheville Museum of Science. Please make sure your child has turned in their signed permission slip and brings a lunch if they did not order one from the cafeteria. Any chaperones must be approved volunteers who have signed up on the BCS website. If you drive your child to school, please help us to ensure the safety of all students by using the car rider line. It is unsafe to allow your child to cross the road and go through the bus lot.
