I've taught at Hominy Valley since 2001 with experience in third and fifth grades.  Prior to this, I taught second grade in the Asheville City Schools System for six years.  I received my degree from UNC-Asheville with a major in Psychology and teaching certification for grades K-6.

I love working with children! They are such a blessing. My desire is that each child in my class will feel safe, secure, and loved while involved in a learning atmosphere. Working together, my goal is that as parents and teachers, the children will excel to their utmost potential and develop their own unique gifts and talents.

Fourth grade is an exciting year for students.  Students are no longer "primary" students, but are now considered to be "elementary students." With this year comes letter grades, textbooks, and the End Of Grade Test.

The best way for parents to help students adjust to this school year is to be actively involved by setting a homework routine where I encourage parents to "help" and "check over" homework. Also, good attendance, a good night's sleep (bedtime routine), and a good nutritious breakfast are all part of a successful year for any grade. Fourth grade students are usually excited about feeling "big" with the changes happening in this school year for them. This is certainly a wonderful year in your child's life. I anticipate great things for this school year!
